The Case For the President

This is the case in favor of the president:

But first, a disclaimer: I can't ride both sides of the fence; I don't feel comfortable over here on the melonball side of the buffet table. My heart is just not in this one. About three weeks ago, we put a notice on the BBHQ Peanut Gallery Bulletin Board asking for input for and against the president. I even invited input from several of my pro-Clinton friends. Reasonable response supporting the president was sparse. Generally, my friends responded like this: "Thank you for your offer, but I find the proceedings a waste of public money and would like these 'public servants' to move on to things that matter to the U.S. public. I don't feel there is a case, and I don't have much interest in discussing it, nor does any one I know have an interest in discussing it except for the fact that we all think it's absurd." And, although I gave her three weeks to respond, another one of my liberal friends, who would support a Democratic president no matter what he did (especially if he vetoes any ban on partial-birth abortion), replied: "Oh Boy would I love to be able to respond. I am however in San Francisco at an international sales meeting that starts at breakfast meetings at 7:00 AM and ends well into the nite." Translation: she has no inention of responding. Neither one has anything concrete to say. I can understand that. If I had voted for this disgraceful boomer twice, I'd bury my head in the sand, too.

Nonetheless, I feel some sort of an obligation to present the other side. As you read each point, remember: it is the response to all the evidence and the resulting charges against the president. Note how they refute the specific charges against him. This is a composite representation from people who have written to BBHQ from that side, and the official White House spin.

In his own words: In 1993, the brand new, boomer president said, "This is going to be the most ethical administration in the history of the country." He said it; I believe it; case closed. Get off his back!!
Four years later, President Clinton ran for re-election on a "family values" platform. Remember how he talked about the importance of family back in 1996? Bill Clinton painted himself as a genuine family man. Remember, he talked fondly about the desire to have another child with his beloved wife. How could that horrible Ken Starr do something so cruel to a man who is about to once again embrace the gentle tenderness of fatherhood?
We need a liar in the White House: "A house divided cannot stand and divided we FALL! I don't care... as long as its not me. It takes an deviate liar to know how to deal with the rest of the politicians that is why Clinton is a great President. Understands and knows how to deal with them. Thats why I feel he's qualified to lead this country at this place in time. It is a jungle and big fish eat little fish! I am a little fish."
"I personally prefer Clinton's lie. Remember, he made 'Don't ask, don't tell' the law. Perhaps it applies here." [Well, it's not exactly a law... it's a policy. The president cannot make something a law. But let's not quibble about details.]
"I just ask that some of you remember all the good he has done for our nation..we voted him into this position twice so I would think that should say something."
Never mind that another Democrat president, Franklin Roosevelt, said that the job or president is primarily one of moral leadership; that was before I was born, for crying out loud! It is totally irrelevant today. "I am totally amazed at the hang up over Clinton and the apparent witch hunt to find peoples weaknesses. Are any of you fellows perfect, so why should he be? Let the guy alone and do what he was elected to do, and moral leader was never one of them."
"Clinton is human and so are we... I believe that Clinton has been a good president... Clinton will survive because he didn't commit a crime, and hopefully it will be Starr who goes to jail!! Your ideas are dried out and boring, your thoughts on our President who I love dearly are disturbing."
The Dow is at 9,000, interest rates are at 6%; unemployment is 3%; balanced budget. Let's have some perspective here. Shut up, already!!
What this president does, aside form his official public duties, has no impact on anybody, anywhere.

These offenses do not rise to the level of impeachment.
This man has suffered enough.
Even if he did do it, it does not warrant removal from office.

So there you have it, friends; the response to the case against the perjury and conspiracy charges against the president. That sure convinces me!

The BBHQ Album of the Month is "Old Friends Live on Stage (Deluxe Edition) (2 CD/1 DVD)," by Simon & Garfunkel. If you were fortunate enough to see them in concert last year, I do not have to sell you. The concert was terrific! This album collection includes 55 songs, plus their new recording, "Citizen of the Planet," and one of the songs sung by the Everly Brothers during the concert. The DVD was recorded during their concert in Madison Square Garden in 2003. For any S&G fan, this is a must have! But then, you knew that already, didn't you?

The BBHQ Book of the Month is "Vinyl Highway," by Dee Dee Phelps. You remember her as Dee Dee, of Dick and Dee Dee. Together, they took a decade long ride on the rock and roll roller coaster. It was a heck of a ride! Dick Clark, Quincy Jones, the Beach Boys, Glenn Campbell, Dionne Warwick, Bobby Vinton... Dick and Dee Dee rubbed shoulders with all of them. This is her "behind the scenes" story. It's pretty cool.
