Dictator for a Day!

BBHQ regular Wmex claims to be a fierce Liberataian. Here he shows his colors:

Read any daily paper: colorblind policies are racist, heterosexuality is a fringe movement, the State is waging war on its own people and calling it a war on drugs...so why not a Libertarian dictator? After all, war is peace...

My very first act as I'm walking off the inaugural platform is to declare a state of unlimited national emergency; now there is no law but me...Congress and the courts can't do anything to stop me, since there's a state of, hmmmmm, unlimited national emergency...

Now the proclamations start issuing from the White House; this is not FDR's Hundred Days, this is my hundred minutes:

Bang! The drug laws are abolished and anyone in jail for personal use is freed and pardoned!

Bang! All US troops are pulled out of Europe, leaving the wealthy EC countries to look after themselves!

Bang! The Administration takes on homelessness! With the untold billions we have saved by ending the drug war, we subsidize the building of millions of affordable housing units all over the country! All zoning laws are suspended during this effort (after all, it's an unlimited national emergency). Vast areas are declared "Housing enterprise zones," in which all real estate taxes are written off for ten years on all new housing units! The mime-troupe crowd won't like this; too bad...

Bang! We eliminate violent street crime in America by the simple expedient of turning the cops loose! There are plenty of cops to go around, since they're not out enforcing No Smoking rules and handing out parking tickets, and there's plenty of prison space, too, since the drug war victims have all been sprung...

Bang! All foreign aid is suspended for a hard-eyed review which will leave funding only to promote American national interests! No more begging North Korea to please, oh, please, drop its nuclear program so that we can send them food...

Bang! The absurd demonization of Cuba is over!

Bang! The drinking age goes back to 18! Old enough to vote, old enough to get drafted, old enough to pay taxes, old enough to drink!

Bang! Selective Srevice is abolished! And, what's more. If it is ever brought back, women will register too!

Most likely I've been assassinated by now; you can't upset the apple carts of those invested in the Big Lies. Do me a favor; don't name a high school after me!

What do you think of the dictator for a day?

The BBHQ Album of the Month is "Old Friends Live on Stage (Deluxe Edition) (2 CD/1 DVD)," by Simon & Garfunkel. If you were fortunate enough to see them in concert last year, I do not have to sell you. The concert was terrific! This album collection includes 55 songs, plus their new recording, "Citizen of the Planet," and one of the songs sung by the Everly Brothers during the concert. The DVD was recorded during their concert in Madison Square Garden in 2003. For any S&G fan, this is a must have! But then, you knew that already, didn't you? Old Friends Live on Stage (Deluxe Edition) (2 CD/1 DVD)

The BBHQ Book of the Month is "Vinyl Highway," by Dee Dee Phelps. You remember her as Dee Dee, of Dick and Dee Dee. Together, they took a decade long ride on the rock and roll roller coaster. It was a heck of a ride! Dick Clark, Quincy Jones, the Beach Boys, Glenn Campbell, Dionne Warwick, Bobby Vinton... Dick and Dee Dee rubbed shoulders with all of them. This is her "behind the scenes" story. It's pretty cool.
