The Year was 1968... the Month: February ---
There was something for every music taste in February. One of the prettiest instrumentals ever was number 1: Paul Muriat's "Love is Blue." A month earlier, nobody had heard of him. And near the other end of the spectrum was Aretha Franklin's "Chain of Fools." It was a terrific month for music! The Lettermen, who had been off the charts for several years were back with a double hit: "Goin' Out of My Head" and "Can't Take My Eyes off of You." (They had one, final hit a year later.) The Lemon Pipers had their one and only hit, a song about a moldy, musical instrument (I think); it was called "Green Tambourine." And John Fred and his Playboy Band had their only hit: "Judy in Disguise." But the top 20 was packed with hits from well-known artist, too. Tommy Boyce and Bobby Hart had their biggest hit, "I Wonder What She's Doing Tonight." Gary Puckett and the Union Gap was flying high with "Woman, Woman." And the Buckinghams had one of their many hits, "Susan." I was into music, big time, in February 1968! I knew the names of all the DJ's at the rock stations in Cleveland, and I had the radio playing every moment I could. I had gotten my first transistor radio a few years earlier, and I carried it with me everywhere. I still have that radio, but I long ago retired it to the archives. But I am still listening to the music of February 1968.
