Meanwhile, in 1967...

January 15: The Green Bay Packers defeat Kansas City in the first Super Bowl.

Amana introduces the first compact microwave oven for home use. The Radar-Range sells for $495.

February: Dr. Martin Luther King speaks out against the Vietnam war.

June: The Six-Day War between Israel and its Arab neighbors (primarily Syria and Egypt) ends in a stunning and convincing victory for Israel.

July: H. Rap Brown cries, "Burn this town" while in Maryland. Apparently, people were listening.

July: Horrible race riots in Detroit cause enormous damage. 43 are killed; 1,700 stores are destroyed. Federal troops are used to stop the mayhem.

July: Riots in Newark, NJ kill 26 and injure more than 1,500. Race riots in 125 other cities indicate the level of discontent.

"Hair" opens off-Broadway.

The Twenty-fifth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution clarifies questions of presidential succession.

November: U.S. population is now at 200 million. The "experts" predict that it will reach 300 million by the year 2000.

The St. Louis Cardinals defeat Boston in a 7-game World Series.

October: 50,000 anti-war demonstrators picket the Pentagon. Other demonstrations occur in Chicago, Philadelphia, Los Angeles and Oakland.

November: Jann Wenner borrows $7,500 to begin publication of "Rolling Stone Magazine."

Mickey Mantle hits his 500th career home run.

The World Boxing Association takes away Muhammad Ali's title because of his refusal to enter the military.

The Academy award for Best Picture goes to "In the Heat of the Night." Katherine Hepburn wins for Best Actress in "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner."

December: Dr. Christian Barnard performs the world's first heart transplant in South Africa. His patient lives for only 18 days.
