A BBHQ Insta-Quote:

Tolerant societies value freedom of expression, but not when that includes freedom to assault and kill. Tolerant societies are ready to welcome others, but not those whose values are discordant with the freedoms they've strived to uphold.    ~ Michael Barone

This Week with the Chicowitz

Al Gore to Earth: You're Dead

This is important enough... we're gonna' let it go another week. (We added some graphics and video mid-week.)

Mr. Scientific American said that if we did not take dramatic, extreme actions right then... it was over. We would be doomed. We had to spend tens of billions of dollars and change our eating, living, travelling, sleeping, and vacationing habits. We had to give up our cars, our air-conditioning, our jet airplanes, our incandescent light bulbs, our gas grills, our methane-producing cows, and pretty much every other creature-comfort device that has benefited us so enormously for the last century.

I Remember... February 1, 1964

I remember February 1, 1964. The "British Invasion" comes on strong, as "I Wanna' Hold Your Hand" hits #1. The great Beatles song will remain in the top spot for 7 weeks!

But also on the same day, the governor of Indiana tried to ban "Louie Louie," claiming the lyrics to the song were obscene.

Here... you decide for yourself. These are the actual lyrics (a little more or less) from the popular 45 version of the song:

Louie Louie, oh baby, we gotta go
Louie Louie, oh baby, we gotta go
Ay yi yi yi yi
A fine little girl, she waits for me
Catch the ship all cross the sea
Sail the ship all alone
Me never think I'll make it home

Louie Louie, oh baby,
Me gotta go.....Ay yi yi yi yi
Louie Louie, oh baby,

We gotta go.....Ay yi yi yi yi
Three nights and days I sail the sea
Me think of girl all constantly
On the ship I dream she there
I smell the roses in her hair

Louie Louie, oh no,
Me gotta go.....Ay yi yi yi yi
Louie Louie, oh baby,
We gotta go

OK, lets give it to them, right now!
Me see Jamaica moon above
It won't be long, me see my love
take her in my arms and then
I tell tell her I'll never leave again

Louie Louie, oh baby,
We gotta go.....Ay yi yi yi yi
Louie Louie, oh baby,
We gotta go.
I said ah we gotta go now
Let's go!

The Day the Music Died

We would be remiss if we did not recognize February 3, 1959 -- the day the music died. We have a special video, exclusively for subscribers to our newsletter. Click the picture to share the memories.

There are no prizes here... it's just for fun.

The BBHQ Joke of the Week

It was the beginning of term at a primary school in Brooklyn. The teacher asked the children their names one at a time, and for each to spell their name out loud.

When she came to a young Pakistani boy and asked his name, he replied, "Ravashanka Vankatarataam Bannerjee."

"How do you spell that?" asked the teacher.

The little boy replies: "My mother helps me."

Have a great week. We'll share the fun next Monday.
