Links here are good only for the week of April 26. After that... is
anybody's guess.
... May flowers. Yeah, we know. Not much comfort to those of you in
Mississippi, though.
Or Colorado, where they are still digging out from a foot of snow.
Though, it is the epitome of diversity.
God bless the USA!

The 1959 Corvair: sporty; new; cute... and moderately priced (about
$2,000 then, $15,000 in today's dollars).
And unsafe? So Ralph Nader said. Subsequent studies have cast
considerable doubt on that claim.
Still, it was a cool car.

This season (09-10), we are featuring quotes from a "must-read" book for
all freedom-loving people, "The 5,000 Year Leap," Principles of Freedom
101.
To John Adams, our second president, the concept of Mainifest Destiny was
unquestionably clear:
|
I always consider the settlement of America with reverence and wonder, as
the opening of a grand scene and design in Providence for the
illumination of the ignorant, and the emancipation of the slavish part of
mankind all over the earth.
|
|
Think about it.
This is serious stuff, folks!

You can purchase your copy of "The 5,000 Year Leap"

Our "Lyrics You Can Share" for this week come from a unit of the
British Invasion. This is an innocent love song by Peter and Gordon, "A
World without Love."
Please, lock me away
And don't allow the day
Here inside, where I hide, with my loneliness
I don't care what they say, I won't stay
In a world without love
Birds, sing out of tune
And rain clouds hide the moon
I'm OK, here I stay, with my loneliness
I don't care what they say, I won't stay
In a world without love

You can listen to a clip from the song near the bottom of this week's essay. Click

The BBHQ Joke of the Week
|
These are entries from the Washington Post's Mensa Invitational.
Add a letter or two; remove a letter or two, and create a new word:
|
Karmageddon: It's when everybody is sending off all these really
bad vibes, and then the Earth explodes, and it's a serious bummer.
Decafalon (n.): The grueling event of getting through the day
consuming only things that are good for you.
Glibido: All talk and no action.
Dopeler effect: The tendency of stupid ideas to seem smarter when
they come at you rapidly.
Arachnoleptic fit (n.): The frantic dance performed just after
you've accidentally walked through a spider web.
Beelzebug (n.): Satan in the form of a mosquito, that gets into your
bedroom at three in the morning and cannot be cast out.
Caterpallor (n.): The color you turn after finding half a worm in the
fruit you're eating.

Brush Up Your Webster - with Madam Red Dot
|
|
An unnamed former U.S. president recently said that
"doin' things when you are mad results in an error."
This is what happens when you are removed from your speech-writer.
The primary definition of "mad" is
"mentally disturbed; deranged; insane; demented."
We also use the word to describe someone or something that is
"enraged; greatly provoked or irritated."
|
|
|
A better word in such a case is "angry." -- Actually, in most cases,
"angry" is a better word choice.
We should save "mad" for.... oh, I donno'.... the birthers and those who
pray at the alter of global warming.
So... brush up your Webster!

Uncle Jay is one of our favorite boomer... artists.
This week, Uncle Jay shows us that YouTube's voice recognition
software still has some flaws in it:

This Week with the Chicowitz
|
This week's essay is about the good, the bad, and the ugly:
Yes, this week's tale is about the good, the bad, and the ugly.
But alas, it has nothing to do with the 1967 motion picture starring
Clint Eastwood. No, our story this week is much better, much worse, and
much uglier... because it deals not with a mythical search in the desert
for gold. It is about real life, real money, and real people. And it
affects you.
|
|
You can read the entire essay here.

Have a great week. We'll share the fun again next Monday.
